Strength Training: The New Longevity Pill
Strength training is a crucial pillar of longevity. Science backs it up: maintaining muscle mass protects your bones, improves cognitive function, and lengthens your life.
By Erika Reyna · · 1 min read I’m realizing that strength training is no longer just for athletes; science is positioning it as a fundamental pillar of my longevity and quality of life. For me, it goes way beyond looks. I understand that active muscle contraction not only strengthens my bones, which is key to protecting myself against osteoporosis, but also improves my metabolic health and cognitive function.
In fact, the studies tell me something really striking: maintaining adequate muscle mass is a much more reliable predictor of longevity than my weight or my Body Mass Index. The key benefit I’m after is protection against sarcopenia (that age-related loss of muscle), because I understand it directly affects my independence as I get older.
