Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Key Micronutrients to Reduce Inflammation

Hashimoto's requires nutritional management. Selenium, Zinc, and Vitamin D are proven micronutrients that reduce inflammation and improve thyroid function.

I’ve been reading about Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which I now clearly understand is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and an autoimmune condition that definitely calls for very careful nutritional management on my part.

Science has been very specific in identifying several micronutrients that are essential, and that I know support my thyroid function and help me reduce the inflammatory response. For example, I’m very interested in Selenium; the article mentions that taking 200 mcg/day has been shown to reduce antithyroid antibodies. I also know that Zinc is vital so my body can convert the T4 hormone into the active T3 hormone. And something I consider crucial is keeping my Vitamin D levels optimal, since I understand that a deficiency in this vitamin is correlated with autoimmune diseases.

Although my ideal diet should be personalized, it’s very clear to me that making sure I get the right amounts of these nutrients, always under medical supervision, is the key to improving my wellness.
